Those of us who follow the religion of Islam, should be eternally grateful, because the Compassionate and Merciful God has made this religion easy to practice and follow.

Allahu, subhanahu wata'aala, is the Creator of mankind and therefore knows its nature in more detail than mankind itself. He has therefore chosen for us a religion that suits our capability, a religion that goes neither to the extremes of hardship nor of total laxity, but instead provides a middle path; in other words, a religion of ease. Allah, subhanahu wata'aala informs us:

Yureedullaahu bi kumul yusra wa laa yureedu bikumul ‘usr. (2-185)
"Allah intends ease for you, and does not want to make things difficult for you" [2:185]; and
Maa yureedullaahu, li yaj’ala ‘alaykum min haraj. (5-6)
Allah does not want to place you in difficulty.

Rasoolullaahi, sas, said to all his followers: Allah did not send me to be harsh, or cause harm, but He sent me to teach and make things easy for all of you.
In another report, his beloved wife, 'Aishah, radiya Allahu 'anha, said: "Whenever the Prophet, salla Allaahu 'alaihe wasallam, has a choice between two matters, he would choose the easier, unless it is a sinful act.

In the Quran, Allah comforts us by continuously reassuring us that He desires for us ease not hardship, despite any difficulties and trials we may sometimes face. Here are some examples from the Quran:
'God desires ease for you, and desires not hardship' (2:185);
'Truly with hardship comes ease' (94: 6);
'God will assuredly appoint, after difficulty; easiness' (65:7);
'Whoever fears God, God will appoint for him, by His command, easiness' (65:4);
'God desires to lighten things for you, for the human being has been created weak' (4:28).

All of these verses and many others are included in the Quran to give the believers comfort and reassurance, by making them aware that regardless of external circumstances, Allah makes everything easy for them.
Rasoolullahi sas, instructed us: Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired of giving rewards till you get bored and tired of performing good deeds! ... and the most beloved deed to Allah is the one which is done regularly, even if it is small' (Bukhari).

Let’s take a look to see what really makes this religion so easy to follow:
Firstly, our basic beliefs are simple and straightforward and are therefore easy to understand and practice. Even the simplest of minds can understand these basic beliefs, such as prayers, fasting, charity and Hajj.

Secondly, all the important obligations of a Muslim are simple and easy to perform. And in Allah’s wisdom, any action of great importance is even easier for everyone to perform it. Let’s look at some examples. Our daily Salaat (Prayers) and Sawm (fasting) during the month of Ramadan are compulsory upon everyone, since they are within every-one’s reach to observe them. And these acts of worship are neither time consuming nor costly. In fact, the poorer you are, the easier it is to perform these acts, because generally a poor person is occupied with less activities than a rich person.
Zakat (Charity) and Hajj (Pilgrimage), on the other hand, are not compulsory upon everyone. Because there is a cost and time is involved. These duties are obligatory only upon those who have the means to do them.

Thirdly, the system covers everyone in every condition. If a person is genuinely unable to stand up and pray, then he is permitted to sit down or even lie down and pray. Similarly, if there is no water available to perform wudu before prayer, then one can make tayammum, which is very simple and easy to do. Indeed, throughout the Quran various provisions have been made, to relax the consitions for travelers, for the sick, for pregnant or nursing women, for the old and for the poor, for Allah does not place a burden on anyone greater than he can bear (7: 42) and 'He has chosen you, and has not imposed any difficulties on you in religion' (22: 78).

Our prophet was very clear in the way he taught the religion and the instructions he left behind, for us to follow: He said: This Deen, or way of life is easy, so, ensure to make it easy, don't make it difficult; 'Let people rejoice in being Muslims and not run away from it'
Let us all show our gratitude to Allah for making our religion simple and easy for all of us to follow.
