Mum Knows Best - a vixen's love for her cubs

Описание: I could not believe my eyes when I spotted 5 tiny brown bundles of joy in my dog kennel that I got for the foxes as a shelter. Mummy Babybelle had placed her munchkins in there for safekeeping. It is such an honour that she chose my garden and trusted me!
Her den where the cubs had been born ca. 10 days ago must have been disturbed. Most likely it was under decking somewhere that was ripped up to be replaced. I can only imagine the fear and horror she must have felt when her fragile little babies were exposed from what used to be their safe home.
As humans we are quick to interfere and the temptation was there to wrap these babies up in cotton wool and "rescue" them. But I knew mum would most likely be back to care for her cubs and potentially move them to a secondary earth.
I supported her with food and put some bedding in the kennel for the cubs as well as setting up trail cameras to monitor the situation. And sure enough, mum DID know best. Nature works in magical ways...watch this film to find out how...

If you are wondering why the vixen did not dig a den in my garden, the reason is that the clay soil is not suitable for tunneling. The vixen did dig some deep holes but then gave up as the soil collapsed.
