The chapter allegedly painted the judiciary in a negative light. The Chief Justice of India rejected the government's apology tendered through the Solicitor General, stating that axing two officers who wrote the chapter was insufficient. The court observed that the content amounts to criminal contempt, describing it as a deliberate attempt to demean the judiciary and interfere with the administration of justice. The court stated that irreversible damage could be caused to the reputation and image of the judiciary, and that simply giving an explanation appears to be an attempt to wriggle out of consequences. The government has directed that the book be kept on hold and the chapter withdrawn.
