In a recent video, I showed how major and minor triads are the only possible combinations of three or more pitches that contain no dissonances, and discussed how this made it inevitable that composers would use them when creating harmony. But triads also form the basis of an important principle of melodic writing. In this video post, I discuss the standard voice-leading advice that consecutive leaps, where present, should outline triads.
