We’ll show you how to make your own Badtz-maru nigiri and fun vegetable shapes to celebrate our favorite mischievous friend! Grab your supplies and let’s get started.

Materials Needed
Cucumber
Cherry tomatoes
Lettuce
Yellow bell pepper
Sushi rice
Nori or seaweed paper
Cheddar and provolone cheese
Cutting board
Circle and star cookie cutters
Tweezers
Scissors
Knife
Plastic wrap
Bento box

Step-by-Step Instructions:
(00:59) Step 1: Take a handful of sushi rice and place it in the middle of a piece of plastic wrap. Twist the plastic wrap to form a circle. Make two rice balls, one for Badz-maru and the other for Hana-maru.
(01:17) Step 2: To make Badtz-maru’s hair, place tablespoons worth of sushi rice on four pieces of plasti wrap. Twist and form the plastic wrap into four triangle shapes.
(01:35) Step 3: Make Badtz-maru vegetable shapes, by carefully cutting a lightning bolt out of yellow bell pepper. Use the rest of the pepper to cut out Badtz-maru’s mouth. Cut a cucumber into 1 inch slices, then use a star cookie cutter to punch out star shapes in the middle.
(02:10) Step 4: For the cheese shapes, use circle cookie cutters to make an “O” from your slice of provolone cheese. Next cut out an “X” shape from the slide of cheddar cheese.
(02:21) Step 5: Download and print the template from the link above. Place the Badtz-maru template on a piece of nori and cut out his face with scissors. Cut out six thin strips and two tiny circles for Hana-maru’s whiskers and eyes. Lastly, cut out Hana-maru’s smile.
(02:44) Step 6: To assemble the bento box, start by laying out a bed of lettuce and place the rice balls on the top. Add Badtz-maru’s hair and place the nori cutout of Badtz-maru’s face on top of the rice ball. Add Hana-maru’s smile, eyes and whiskers using a pair of tweezers on the second rice ball. To finish, add Badtz-maru’s bell pepper mouth and add the vegetable shapes, grape tomatoes, and cheese shapes.

This bento box is the perfect lunch treat and will bring joy to anyone who gets to eat this delicious meal!
