Well, guess I'm doing more F-Zero after all! Last upload wasn't really successful, but that's alright lol.
The music:
Another one of my favourite tracks, Cloud Carpet! I really like this one, it feels grungy and heavy, especially at the beginning, and I hope I captured that feeling; it kinda sounds like a mad scramble of sorts, what with all the ships crashing into each other (especially true in Master difficulty). It's also a fun track to race on imo, one of the best in MV (both Long Jump and Icarus, especially because of the skips). The theme itself is one of the few which doesn't use MV's lead guitar, opting for a synth of sorts, so I went with that. Most of the stuff here is made with free soundfonts like Vintage, Arachno (for the drums), and so on, and I guess it sounds ok, though someone with a higher budget could definitely pull off a better remix; that said, my aim with this (as well as the majority of remixes) is to evoke the feeling of the original, while not straying too much from it. I guess it's a bit of a double-edged sword, but we'll see where this brings us in the future.
Fun fact! The "HAH" sample was taken from that one Regular Show episode where Benson plays a drum solo.
The game itself:
Maximum Velocity is odd. I feel like it's a bit too derivative from the original SNES F-Zero, and this in turn gives it less of an identity. Not to say that it doesn't have one to begin with, as we have a whole new cast of characters and tracks (except for Fire Field and Silence), but I have some issues with both of them. The characters are extremely uninteresting, very bland and generic, with little to no backstory. The tracks too are ok-ish, even if some of them feel like F-Zero re-hashes, thematically-speaking. The ships themselves aren't exactly appealing, with some of them looking like they've been clunkily bolted together, which I suppose makes sense for the plot of this game?
Still, it was a bold decision, and one that, despite its flaws, is very commendable (especially since the other GBA games are based on the anime, and go back to the same old tracks, with some exceptions).
Hope you Enjoy|
