Back from my hiatus, life has been sort of a rollercoaster of stuff.
Wasn't really planning on doing more F-Zero as of now, but this is a nice "filler" upload.
The music:
Tenth Zone East is one of my favourite tracks in the game, next to Cloud Carpet and Fire Field. This game's music is very interesting, and this is one of the more rock-ish tunes, and one of the longest tracks too if I'm not mistaken. I messed around with those sforzando metal guitars for the rhythm, while for the lead I used the F-Zero X charang + Arachnosoft distortion guitar (both running through Revalver). Mixing-wise, it sounds good when listening with headphones, hope it applies to speakers as well.
The game itself:
Maximum Velocity is odd. I feel like it's a bit too derivative from the original SNES F-Zero, and this in turn gives it less of an identity. Not to say that it doesn't have one to begin with, as we have a whole new cast of characters and tracks (except for Fire Field and Silence), but I have some issues with both of them. The characters are extremely uninteresting, very bland and generic, with little to no backstory. The tracks too are ok-ish, even if some of them feel like F-Zero re-hashes, thematically-speaking. The ships themselves aren't exactly appealing, with some of them looking like they've been clunkily bolted together, which I suppose makes sense for the plot of this game?
Still, it was a bold decision, and one that, despite its flaws, is very commendable (especially since the other GBA games are based on the anime, and go back to the same old tracks, with some exceptions).
Hope you Enjoy|
