STORYLINE:
Two near-simultaneous drone strikes hit two vehicles traveling in opposite directions on Beirut’s main coastal highway, commonly known as the Airport Road, killing three people and wounding six others, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

The Israeli military said it targeted a Hezbollah member, adding that further details would follow.

The cars burst into flames on the highway, which links central and western Beirut with Rafic Hariri International Airport and the southern suburbs.

Footage captured by Associated Press showed emergency workers onsite, as well as a charred car being taking away by a truck from the scene.

Lebanese officials say more than 70 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since the latest escalation with Hezbollah began three days ago. Those include at least one Hezbollah intelligence official and a senior Palestinian militant.
