“Honestly, it is hard feeling. I mean it is not about the financial aspect of it, but it is about the fact that you go for a journey and come back to see this disaster. That you are being a victim of a catastrophic incident. This war that we have nothing to do with it. We are not responsible for it, we are not a part of it, and we were not the cause of it. We just pay the price for something we didn’t do.”

“So, when it first happened like I just looked over and I just saw glass in our windows broken and I go outside to our living room, and I just see that all the windows are broken. I hear like yelling outside. So, I go outside and I see just like a bunch of people, later I found out that there was a drone right there and it was caught in the power lines. So, that’s why the explosion wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. It could’ve been worse.”

STORYLINE:
Residents of Irbil, the capital of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, are increasingly being caught in the crossfire of the war in the Middle East triggered by the attacks launched by the U.S. and Israel on Iran.
Locals woke up overnight Wednesday to explosions from drones and missiles, shattering windows of various houses and causing significant damage to propoerties.
Ibrahim Jawdat said he "woke up around 2:45 a.m. to one of the loudest bangs I've ever heard in my life," after a drone fell next to his family's house and detonated Wednesday, blasting out windows and spraying shattered glass across his bed.
His neighbor, Hawkar Hadi, surveyed his damaged house: shattered windows, shrapnel fragments lodged in walls and furniture.
"It’s difficult to be a victim of a war that we’re not part of or responsible for it," he said. "We’re paying the cost of things we didn’t do."
Iran and allied Iraqi militias have fired missiles and drones at U.S. bases and its consulate in Irbil.
Most have been intercepted, with some falling in residential areas.
Irbil Gov. Omed Khoshnaw said Wednesday in a press conference that attacks targeting the Kurdish region's capital have exceeded 100 since Saturday and called on the federal government to compensate residents for the damages.
