Non-contact voltage detection through a test lead is a feature that most people don't even know their meter does. It can be extremely useful. Your meter must have a dedicated NCV setting and you MUST be touching BARE metal/wire with the tip of the test lead for it to work. It WILL NOT sense voltage through the covering/jacket over the wire like when using the sensor in the jaws of your clamp meter or a dedicated non-contact voltage detector stick. Give it a try with your meter, you might be surprised that you have this function.
