Sprinting can be completed in less time than HIIT and aides for weight reduction and decreased waist size (PMID30568598).
Study defined:
Sprinting = 100% effort
HIIT = 90-95% effort
Where sprinting only took 80% as long as HIIT
Other benefits of sprinting include:
Reduced waist circumference
Fewer skin folds
Improved cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2 max)
Sprinting workout for beginners:
Five to seven 20-30 second sprints
Rest up to 2 minutes
Repeat up to 2x per week
As you become more advanced, you can complete more intervals - aka more sprints - with less rest.
Sprinting workout for advanced/intermediate:
Eight to ten 30-second sprints
Rest up to 60 seconds
Sprinting can be done outside, on a treadmill, on rowing or ski machine, with a sled push or on a bike!
The machine is irrelevant - it’s about EFFORT. If you’re not really pushing 100% to your ABSOLUTE MAX, it won’t be as effective.
