In late May, Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #765 operated a series of public excursions over Horseshoe Curve during the 3-day Memorial Day weekend. Starting from Enola Yard in Harrisburg each morning, 765 traveled west on the former Pennsylvania Railroad Middle Division to Lewistown in order to board passengers. The train then continued west to Altoona with a spectacular ascent of the 1.8% grade to the summit at Gallitzin, including a trip over the famous Horseshoe Curve. After a layover in Altoona for lunch, 765 retraced her route to Lewistown and then Harrisburg.
