Scientists have long thought that earthquake prediction is impossible, but Stanford alum Celeste Ford, MS ’75, Aeronautics & Astronautics, takes another view.
“For the longest time we said that tornadoes cannot be predicted, but then along came Doppler radar. So what if we could predict earthquakes? You often hear about one hitting somewhere in the world. People die and property is destroyed, but what if you had days or weeks of warning? How would you live differently?” —Celeste Ford, MS ’75 Aeronautics & Astronautics
QuakeFinder, a humanitarian R&D project supported by Ford’s aerospace engineering company Stellar Solutions, is developing technology and methods for detection and analysis of electromagnetic earthquake precursors to produce earthquake forecasts and save lives.
