Surgical management of pediatric patients with the diagnosis of complete atrioventricular canal (CAVC) is accomplished by using one of three procedures: (1) the classic single-patch, (2) two-patch, or (3) modified single-patch technique. Of these, the modified single-patch is currently the best technique available for repair of CAVC.
Surgical repair of CAVC is usually accomplished at the age of 2–4 months. It can be achieved through one of the following procedures: the traditional single-patch technique, the standard double-patch technique and the modified single-patch technique (also known as the Australian technique, or Nunn Technique). Additional procedures have been reported sporadically; these include the one-and-a-half-patch, the central patch or the no-patch technique.
