The video illustrates the dynamics of 50'000 particles interacting via a linear spring-dashpot model [1] in a discrete elements simulation (DEM) while being subject to an external linear non-isotropic spring pulling towards the center of the system. After some transient period the system settles to an approximately static state.
The rendering was done via OpenGL [2] using OpenGL [3] and OpenGL Mathematics [4] and the encoding as png images using the lodepng library [5].
