Plantar fasciitis, tibialis posterior tendinopathy or arch pain in general? Low dye taping is a fantastic way to help ease discomfort by helping lift the arch up, reducing pronation (rolling in at the ankle) and supporting those intrinsic muscles in the foot.
Tape done in this way can be kept on for up to 5 days or when it feels stretched/lax before replacing.
As Podiatrists, we may use this taping technique to help offload initial sharp, stabby pain to get the pain to a more manageable level to then make way for exercises and other treatments that will assist in addressing the cause long-term. If taping is successful in a patient, it usually means that they have some foot structure issues that are causing the pain and will need long-term management in order to fully address the cause. This may be in the way of more supportive footwear (depending on the patient), orthotic inserts/insoles, strengthening weak muscles or a combination of all three!
