Approach and Landing on runway 25 at Marathon airport (KMTH / MTH) on the Florida Keys, USA. Light crosswind from the right. Mooney M20F with highly modified panel. Filmed in 4k.
The approach was flown on a nice evening with just a few clouds. Due to the low sun, the visibility was a little bit reduced. In the video, you can see very good, that the wind is blowing from the right. This is the reason, why the nose is not pointing directly to the runway. Instead the nose is pointing into the wind and the plane is tracking on the runway track of 251 degrees. Wind direction and speed was at about 700 feet: 324 degrees with 17 kts.
In the Garmin GTN 750, the visual approach for runway 25 was selected. This produced an ILS-style guidance for a 3 degree final approach to the runway on the Aspen PFD. You can also see the indications of the AOA (Angle of Attack) indicator and the synthetic vision of the approaching runway.
Runway 25 at Marathon airport has the following dimensions: 5008 feet by 100 feet or 1526 x 30 meters.
