Natural American Spirit is an Additive-Free cigarette brand from the USA that was first introduced in 1982, and throughout the 1990's, slowly started to rise in popularity. Then, in 2002, RJ Reynolds bought AS for $340 million dollars, and since that point, the brand has exploded in popularity.

Today, inside the United States, American Spirit is much more popular than not, being the largest additive-free brand by far, and is currently produced in North Carolina by the Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, a subsidiary of RJR. However, outside of the United States, NAS is instead produced by Japan Tobacco, who purchased the international rights to the brand in 2015 for $5 billion dollars, and from what I can tell, within Japan AS is not particularly popular, and this has actually led to some controversy from JT's shareholders.
