Actor Richard Roxburgh has been awarded the GQ Acting Legend award for his service to the creative industries.
The Australian National University and NIDA graduate has given so much to the Aussie stage and screens over the years.
For a time his resume was notable for its configuration of dark stars – Detective Roger Rogerson in Blue Murder, son of Stalin in Children of the Revolution, the raffish Duke in Moulin Rouge!, Dracula in Van Helsing, Holmes-nemesis Professor Moriarty in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
And of course, his best known role making the unlovable lovable as Cleaver Greene in Rake.
After this journey, Roxburgh is returning to the Blue Murder role that put him on the acting map in the first place in an upcoming sequel.
Accepting his award Roxburgh said:
"I had to look up the word legend to see what that really means. And a definition I saw, maybe I wasn't looking in the right places, but it said a legend is an old tale that is sort of half true passed on between generations. What makes me sound a bit like some kind of ancient STD."
