Psalm 3 is a psalm of trust in the midst of distress. Traditionally attributed to King David during his flight from Absalom, this psalm gives voice to the faithful soul surrounded by opposition, yet confident in the Lord’s protection.
Though enemies multiply and despairing voices claim there is “no salvation,” the psalmist confesses that the Lord Himself is a shield, glory, and the One who lifts up the head. Even in danger, the righteous one lies down and sleeps in peace, knowing that salvation belongs to the Lord alone.
In the Orthodox tradition, Psalm 3 is prayed as an evening psalm, reminding us that true rest comes not from the absence of trials, but from trust in God’s sustaining presence.
