The University of Michigan College of Engineering is one of the world’s top engineering schools. Michigan Engineering is home to 12 highly-ranked departments, and its research budget is among the largest of any public university.
The CYGNSS microsatellite observatories will continuously monitor surface winds over the oceans across Earth’s tropical hurricane-belt latitudes. Each satellite is capable of capturing four wind measurements per second, adding up to 32 wind measurements per second for the entire constellation. The CYGNSS hurricane mission launched in Dec. 2016 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
Chris Ruf is a professor of climate and space sciences and engineering and principal investigator of the CYGNSS mission. His research focuses on Earth and planetary remote sensing. http://clasp.engin.umich.edu/people/cruf
