Taiwan’s economic outlook is drawing strong international confidence. Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Chiang Wen-jo attended an economic outlook conference hosted by the German Trade Office Taipei, where she met with representatives from German companies. A new survey shows that more than 90% of German businesses are optimistic about Taiwan’s economic prospects and express strong confidence in continuing to invest in the country. Let’s hear more.

So for 2026, over 90% of our German companies have said that the overall economic outlook for Taiwan is very strong. There’s a lot of fossil fuels being shipped from the Middle East to Taiwan, whether it’s gas, for example, natural gas from Qatar, or also oil from some of the states. So we will have to see how long this particular conflict will last, whether this will impact Taiwanese energy supply in a way, because then of course it will also impact our German investors.

Taiwan’s semi industry is heavily entangled with the material and equipment as well. It’s equally important to enhance the supply chain resilience.
As conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, concerns are growing over potential disruptions to the global energy supply chain. At the same time, Taiwan and Germany are deepening their cooperation in the semiconductor industry. TSMC recently broke ground on a new plant in the German state of Saxony, while German materials giant Merck is investing 500 million euros in Kaohsiung to build a semiconductor technology park that will supply critical materials for advanced packaging. The moves are expected to further strengthen the resilience of the global semiconductor supply chain.
