Jeetendra Singh, the Divisional Railway Manager of Vadodara, recently shared details about the redevelopment plan for Pratapnagar Station with the NewsStation team. Located in Vadodara Division, Pratapnagar (formerly known as Goya Gate) holds historical significance as the point where narrow gauge railways first arrived in the city on July 1, 1880.
The station is home to a vital workshop for maintaining coaches and carriage wagons, which was inaugurated in 1922 after its foundation was laid by Lord Chelmsford, the Viceroy of India, in 1919. As part of the Amrit Station Scheme, Pratapnagar Station is undergoing extensive upgrades to enhance passenger experience and station infrastructure.
The redevelopment plan includes a new station building with modern amenities, an expanded circulating area with parking, and the conversion of two narrow gauge lines to broad gauge. The project will also add two new platforms, raise and extend the existing narrow gauge platform, and improve station signage, lighting, toilets, and water booths. A 12-meter wide foot overbridge (FOB) with lifts will connect both sides of the city.
