Join us as we trek deep into the Ginigathhena jungle to find the breathtaking Aberdeen Waterfall!"
Standing at an impressive 98 meters (322 feet), Aberdeen Waterfall is the 18th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and easily one of its most beautiful "hidden gems." Located in the Nuwara Eliya district near Ginigathhena, this waterfall is fed by the Kehelgamu Oya and is surrounded by lush tropical forests and misty peaks.
Named after the city of Aberdeen in Scotland during the colonial era, the falls are famous for their perfectly vertical drop and the turquoise natural pool at the base. Whether you're looking for an adventure hike or a peaceful escape into nature, Aberdeen Falls is a must-add to your Sri Lanka itinerary.

🗺️ Travel Guide: How to Get to Aberdeen Waterfall
Location: Ginigathhena (Nuwara Eliya District).
How to Get There: From Colombo, take the Hatton Road (A7) to Ginigathhena. From the town, hire a tuk-tuk to the trailhead.
The Hike: It’s a moderately challenging trek of about 1.2km including steep steps. It takes roughly 30-45 minutes.
Best Time to Visit: October to November for maximum water flow, or January to March for clearer weather.
Safety Warning: ⚠️ Please be extremely cautious if you decide to swim. The center of the pool is very deep with dangerous currents. Always stick to the edges!
💡 Essential Travel Tips:
Footwear: Wear sturdy trekking shoes; the rocks and steps can be extremely slippery.
Leech Alert: Like most Sri Lankan jungles, leeches are common during the rainy season. Bring salt or repellent!
Nearby: You can easily visit Laxapana Falls on the same day as they are relatively close to each other.
