Get ready for the cutest feeding time you've ever seen!
In this video, we visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home (Ath Athuru Sevana), a world-renowned rehabilitation center in Sri Lanka dedicated to a single mission: giving orphaned baby elephants a second chance at life in the wild.
Unlike many "orphanages," the Elephant Transit Home is strictly focused on conservation. The calves here were rescued from the jungle due to injuries or being separated from their herds. They are cared for with minimal human contact to ensure they never lose their wild instincts. Once they reach the age of five, they are released back into the Udawalawe National Park.
Watch with us as over 40 playful calves rush to the feeding station for their milk! It’s a heart-lifting experience that supports real wildlife conservation in Sri Lanka.
📍 What You’ll See in This Video:
The "Milk Rush": Baby elephants running for feeding time
Playful antics and social behavior of the calves
🍼 Feeding Times & Visiting Info:
The baby elephants are fed every three hours. We highly recommend timing your visit to catch one of these slots:
Morning: 9:00 AM
Mid-day: 12:00 PM
Afternoon: 3:00 PM (Most popular slot to pair with a safari!)
Evening: 6:00 PM
Location: Just 5km from the main entrance of Udawalawe National Park.
Entry Fee: Proceeds go directly toward the massive cost of milk and veterinary care for the elephants.
❤️ Why This is an Ethical Choice:
No Chaining: The elephants roam free in a large natural area.
No Human Direct Contact: Visitors watch from a raised platform to prevent the elephants from becoming too comfortable with humans.
The End Goal is Freedom: This is a "transit" home, not a permanent home. Every elephant you see is a future wild elephant!
💡 Tips for Your Visit:
Arrive Early: Get there 20 minutes before feeding time to get a good spot on the viewing platform.
Bring a Zoom Lens: Since you are kept at a distance for the animals' safety, a zoom lens is perfect for capturing those close-up cute faces!
Combine with a Safari: Most people visit the ETH at 3:00 PM and then head straight into the park for a sunset safari.
📸 My Gear:
Main Camera: DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro
