Lately, I’ve been noticing a lot moving through my body.
Anger that feels hot and tight.
Deep sadness that feels heavy.
Anxiety that shows up as buzzing and restlessness.
Naming how I feel matters. And naming alone isn’t a replacement for actually feeling what I feel.
Our emotions are valid.
They carry information. And pausing to feel them in the body doesn’t mean we’re downplaying them or pushing them away.
For me, this is how emotions stop spilling into everything. Into how I show up with food. Into my relationships. Into the people I love.
When I take a moment to feel the physical sensations connected to an emotion, the nervous system has somewhere to land.
The emotion doesn’t have to take over. It can move through.
In this video, I share what emotional sensing looks like in real life, using my own experience, and I guide a gentle practice for those moments when sensing inside feels hard or overwhelming.
If internal sensing isn’t accessible yet, that’s okay. I also share an external entry point using hand rubbing to create warmth and sensation, a simple way to begin building safety without pressure.
This isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about creating safety in the nervous system.
And when safety is present, many things begin to soften, including our relationship with food.
You don’t need to do this perfectly. Even a few moments of sensation can help the body settle.

I’m Eileen Mitchell, RYT 500, Holistic Health Coach and Intuitive Eating Counselor, and Creator of the Nervous-System-Led Food Freedom Method.
