Who doesn’t know this song? It’s got a steady bassgroove in the chorus where the bass plays (almost) the same lick as the guitar. And I like the more ‘open’ groove in the Verse and Pre-chorus.

I also like the notes on the fourth beat in bar 18 very much. Steve Fossen plays an sixteenth F# note before he goes to the E note. And the bassline in the Bridge is at times very melodic (bars 59 and 61) and also rhythmic (bars 64 and 65); played staccato (short) in bar 57 and accents in bar 66, and just ‘pumping’ in bars 68-71.

I play this song on a Sire Marcus Miller V10 in passive mode with roundwound strings. To get close to the sound of the bass of this song I use a compressor; pre-amp; flanger and reverb. Tuning is E A D G. Don’t forget to tune your bass a bit higher (A4 = 444 Hz).
