Such a catchy bassgroove! The ‘secret’ of playing this groove is in giving the first note (low E) an accent; playing the eight note of the second count (note = D) staccato/short; and really playing the E note on the third count as an eight note. The secret here is not to play this E note until you play the low 16th note, but to keep just a little bit of rest there. And of course the 16th notes on the fourth count has to be played hammer on.

The challenge here is to really play the maingroove consistent. The ‘danger’ is forgetting to concentrate on each groove.

The melodic line in the Chorus (bar 35-36) is often played the wrong way. The temptation is to play this lick unisono (the same) with the vocals. Please stick to the melodic line as written in the transcription (score/tabs) and you’ll see that it works just fine with the vocals and the chords.

I play this song on a Fender Jazz Bass with roundwound strings. Tuning is E A D G. No effects used except a bit compression and a preamp. Don’t forget to tune your bass just a bit higher (A4 = 443 Hz).
