Описание: If we have not yet established connection with the water then, when we push on the footboard there is nothing locked in to push against, and because the weight of the rower is much more than that of the boat, we just push the hull backwards relative to the direction of travel. If we are able to maintain the run at this point by allowing the blade to connect before we drive, then the deceleration that unavoidably takes place when we change the direction of our body is limited as best possible. Its more efficient to maintain speed than lose it and try recreate it.
