In herinnering aan mijn dierbare vriend en collega Hugo van Neck, deel ik met de wereld deze geluidsopname van een van Hugo's geniale improvisaties. Ieder geschreven woord verbleekt bij de typering van Hugo's pianospel. Dat velen deze grootmeester aan de piano in ere mogen houden en van zijn spel mogen blijven genieten. Met dank aan de met Hugo bevriende Amsterdamse pianist Rodolphe Ravissant, die deze geluidsopname ter beschikking stelde.

Hugo van Neck was born on July 4, 1944 in Amsterdam. Hugo began to play the piano in 1951 after his father had an old piano. After several hours, Hugo after everything that he ever had 'saved'. A teacher immediately recognized him as a child prodigy possessed except a natural virtuosity of an extraordinary talent for improvisation. Yet he remained until 1966 almost entirely self-taught and studied many styles of music. It was strongly advised him to do matriculation at the Amsterdam Conservatory. He chose this a virtuoso examination program and thus brought to the commission unanimously a true cause pandemonium.
Exceptional, but understandably he was following them directly placed in the fourth year for the main piano. He then visited the Amsterdam Music Lyceum, where he took the solo training at the pedagogue Charles Hilsum. He also took 2 years of lessons with the pianist and composer Hans Henkemans. From 1970 to 1977 he was a lecturer at the Utrecht Conservatory. He also gave in cooperation with the American opera director Rhoda Levine improvisation classes at the Dutch Opera Foundation and improvisation master classes at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
In 1975 he made his big debut in France, where he during the music festival at Vence, garnered great success as a classical pianist, jazz pianist and improviser. With his virtuosity as a classical pianist and versatility as an improviser he gained much respect from colleagues such as Jean Pierre Rampal, Maria Jao Pires Görgy Zamphir, Martha Argerich, George Pludermacher, Daniel Wayenberg etc. In the same year he made his debut on the Dutch TV with a own work for piano and orchestra, followed by several appearances in the "Fist of friend and admirer William Duys. Many times he performed for the radio at home and abroad, as a soloist, but also as supervisor include Roberta Alexander, Elizabeth Cooymans and Christina Harvey. Works also (e) together with Daniel Wayenberg, Ramses Shaffy, Louis van Dijk, Pim Jacobs, Thijs van Leer, Bernard Drukker, Dorothy Donagan, Mitchell Zeidwig, Jan Vayne and especially master pianist Igor Roma (first prize winner of the Liszt Competition in 1996).
