[The Dirt on Polydextrose] What is polydextrose, is polydextrose safe to eat and should you avoid this food additive?
Have you ever been eating (say a bowl of cereal) and noticed it was high in fiber? Or maybe yogurt or even V8? How does yogurt have so much fiber? Are they hiding wheat bran in the yogurt and not telling us? No, no they are not.
That is thanks to a little engineered ingredient called polydextrose, which is a low-calorie carbohydrate. It is added to foods to increase the dietary fiber, just like inulin and maltodextrin.
Polydextrose can hide under the food label as dietary fiber. Warning labels are also included because more than 15 grams can have laxative effects!
Today Amanda is sharing with you what exactly polydextrose is and if this is an ingredient you should avoid.
