In this video, I talk about the three worst ingredients in so-called keto-friendly food. Here they are:

1. Maltodextrin. Please be sure to read the labels before you buy food. Never consume anything with maltodextrin. It’s derived from corn and wheat, which is usually GMO and means you’ll be ingesting glyphosate residue. Worse than that is the glycemic index score of 110. That’s higher than table sugar, which is 70. I don’t know of anything with a higher score. It will spike your blood sugar quite high. As well, the FDA doesn’t include maltodextrin in its definition of added sugar so manufacturers aren’t required to disclose it as such.
2. Dextrose, which has a glycemic index score of 100. Also higher than table sugar. Dextrose is a synthetic sugar. Why would you ever want to buy keto food that’s full of synthetic sugar? It’s not keto-friendly food.
3. Maltitol, which I believe is one of the worst sugar alcohols out there. It’s half glucose, which has a glycemic index score of 100, leaving maltitol with a score of between 57 and 70. Still quite high! By contrast, the sugar alcohol erythritol has a glycemic index rating of zero. Xylitol, which I quite like, has a rating of 30 so just don’t consume too much of it and make sure you get the non-GMO kind.

These are the three ingredients in so-called keto-friendly food that I would totally avoid if you want to get the benefits of the keto diet.
