Installing a Bowl Stuffer into a Berkeley 12JG Jet Boat Pump

Описание: While I had my Berkeley 12JG Jet pump out of my boat, I decided to install a CP performance billet bowl stuffer.

The purpose of the stuffer is to eliminate the void or space that is left from the back side of the impeller to the bowl of the pump. This will prevent water from getting in this area and creating turbulence, effecting the water flow from the impeller blades to the bowl vanes. It will clean up the water flow, improve the overall efficiency of the pump and help prevent cavitation.

Overall the bowl stuffer installation is relatively simple, but there are some things that you need to keep in mind. The biggest of these are your internal clearances. The main thing is to be sure that you have enough room being the back side of the impeller to the down for the stuffer. Now on the CP stuffer that I have, I had to accommodate for an additional .116" in thickness from the stuffer. CP calls out to have the pump shaft machined .040-.090" in order to accommodate the stuffer. This will move the impeller forward in the suction housing to make that room. Now in doing this you need to be sure that you do not move the impeller so far forward that it makes contact with the wear ring, or suction housing.

Now if you do not have room to move the impeller forward you will have to remove material from the seat that the stuffer sits on within the bow to create the needed clearance.

With a OEM un modified pump there should be amble clearance. But double check to be sure that your pump has not been modified or "tightened" up since that will complicate the installation.

Also mark and drill your holes for the stuffer one at a time. Learn from me and do not drill all four at once. When I did this I found that my stuffer was rotated a few degrees and no longer centered within the bowl. Im sure I could have left it like that and ran it, but I was able to quickly weld up the holes with my TIG welder. I then bolted the stuffer in with one bolt, then marking and drilling each following hole one at a time. By doing it this way I was able to keep the stuffer centered in the bowl.
