Lago di Sorapis (1,925 m) is one of the most stunning and visited lakes in the Dolomites.
It is famous for its unique turquoise color, created by fine limestone particles carried down from the Sorapis glacier.
In this video, I take you on the trail from Val Bona along route no. 217 – the shortest but also the steepest path to the lake. With about 600 meters of elevation gain and challenging ascents, the reward is breathtaking views of the Sorapis massif.
After around two hours of hiking, you’ll reach Rifugio Vandelli, a mountain hut located just a few steps from the lake. From there, Lago di Sorapis reveals itself in full beauty – one of the most photogenic lakes in the Alps.
Even though the lake often gets crowded, there are always quiet corners where you can enjoy the atmosphere and the dramatic mountain scenery in peace.
