1.26.26-1.27.26 Update:: A beautiful start to the weekend is on the way. We’re watching the trades ease up and bend a little more east-southeast today and into Saturday as a front approaches from the west. You’ll notice the difference — winds won’t have that steady punch, and some neighborhoods will flip into afternoon sea breezes and overnight land breezes.
For now, it stays fairly dry. Most of the light showers will stick to the usual windward and mauka spots, and even there, they’ll be pretty limited. Radar this morning is quiet, and the day is unfolding just as expected.
Sunday into Monday is when we’ll be watching for a change, especially across Kauai and Oahu first. That weakening front may bring a bump in moisture and a better chance for showers across the western islands before gradually sliding east. It’s not a washout signal right now, but it’s enough to keep rain chances in the forecast.
By Tuesday and through late next week, we’re back to a more classic Hawaii pattern, breezy trade winds filling back in and helping to stabilize things again.
For beachgoers and boaters: East shore surf dips a bit today as that north-northeast swell fades, but another north-northeast pulse arrives over the weekend to keep some energy in the water. North and west shores start to see a boost Saturday as a west-northwest swell builds, peaking early next week. South shores? Pretty steady near seasonal averages heading into March.
Marine conditions stay manageable through the weekend with moderate east to southeast winds, but expect stronger trades to return early next week.
