I'm settling into the Elephant Plains Game Lodge, in the heart of the Sabi Sand Private Reserve, directly connected to Kruger National Park. From the moment I arrive, I feel that special atmosphere of African lodges: elegant, peaceful, and connected to nature. I'll start by showing you my room, which is spacious and bright. The materials are warm, the rooms generous, and above all, the private terrace offers a direct view of the savannah. I sit there for a few moments, simply to watch. Here, it's not uncommon to see elephants, buffalo, or sometimes even other members of the Big Five. This proximity to wildlife immediately gives the feeling of being immersed in the heart of the wilderness. I continue my tour with the lodge's common areas. The swimming pool, opening onto the savannah, is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant spots. I pause there for a moment, observing the horizon, the trees, and that almost invisible line where the landscape seems to stretch on forever. The calm is absolute, broken only by the sounds of the bush. I then visit the lodge bar, a convivial place where people like to gather after safaris. The atmosphere is relaxed, elegant, and conducive to conversation. People share their observations of the day, compare wildlife encounters, and extend the experience over a drink, facing the savannah as it slowly darkens with the sunset. One of the lodge's most delightful surprises is the wine cellar. A true gem, it houses an impressive selection of South African and international wines. The setting is meticulously designed, almost theatrical, and perfectly reflects the high standards of Elephant Plains. Here, even the art of winemaking finds its place in the heart of the African bush. What I particularly appreciate about Elephant Plains is this balance between understated luxury and total immersion in nature. Nothing is ostentatious; everything is designed to enhance the environment.
