Chapter 9-10 of Ezra are closely tied. In chapter 9, Ezra receives a report of unfaithfulness to the Lord their God, a significant rebellion against the covenant-keeping, faithful God who had restored them to the land, restored them as a people. Ezra showed outward grief: ripping his clothes, tearing hair out of his beard, sitting all day in this state praying to the Lord. Ezra’s prayer of repentance is recorded for our benefit.
