Описание: Many of the first known anthropomorphic representations of the Buddha in South Asia wear Mediterranean togas and share the company of Mediterranean deities. This historical curiosity is attributed to the arrival of Greek and Roman armies to northwest India around 300 BC. The use of human images to portray divine beings became the norm at this point in time, but not without conserving the traditional use of Aryan symbols by placing each insignia strategically about the head, hands, heart and feet of a Buddha’s body.
