Painting a playground is not overwhelming. It's the tid-bits of other details surrounding it that is. This is the instructional walk through timelapse created for our 2021 volunteers to hit the ground running on their first day of painting.
The Asphalt was black topped in mid July, several rain storms has help to keep the surface clean. There is considerable research on proper prep of the surface, use of additional base and top coats to ensure the graphics last.
Materials:
Qty 2, 2x4 8' long boards
Qty 2, 4x8 MDF sheets
Paint/Trays/Rollers
Patinters Tape
Qty 2-3 Volunteers.
Technique notes:
In this process you can see how we lift the template straight UP. Dragging the board agains the asphalt surface will drag any paint from the underside of the guides. Use pressure by standing on the 2x4 boards at the edge of the 4x8 sheets to ensure the roller is guided firmly against the edge creating a clean line.
Painters tape comes in handy! Use the tape at the ends of the grids to keep the rolled edges clean.
After each side is painted, I recommend wiping off the under side of the boards to reduce paint build up.
