Our bucket-list trip in the spring of 2024. We walked the #caminodesantiago from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. From Porto, it is about 240 kilometers (150 miles) and it took us 12 days to complete. Follow our adventures and experiences in this 12-episode documentary.
Today we walked from Arcade to Pontevedra.
The weather finally broke and we enjoyed a short walk through fields and ancient woodland to reach the historic city of Pontevedra. Pontevedra, which literally means 'Old Bridge', is of Roman origin and is considered the Spanish capital of the Portuguese Camino due to its size and its many sights. Be sure to spend some time in this beautiful city. The city's link with the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago is reflected in the Galician saying "Pontevedra gives water to travellers".
The Camino Portugues, also known as the Portuguese Way, is one of the various routes of the Camino de Santiago, a network of pilgrimage routes leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain.
