Earl Brown II (Bio)
I've been married to my loving and caring wife, Gailia Mercer-Brown, for 15 years. She is the Assistant School Counselor Director for Dorchester District 2 County Public Schools. We have two lovely daughters, Kearsten (18) and Kadence (16). Kearsten is a Sophomore at Spelman College (Atlanta, Ga), and Kadence is a Junior at Summerville High School. My family is my backbone and serves as a solid support system in my endeavors.
I'm very excited to be blessed with this fantastic opportunity to lead Burke High School Football and represent the City of Charleston. Getting out into the community with the great people of the City of Charleston is my top priority to re-establish and foster relationships that promote my football program. I'm grateful to be a part of the team and able to represent my school and my community. During the interview process, I stated: “I’m here to BUILD RELATIONSHIPS, CULTIVATE PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS, ESTABLISH A POWERHOUSE FOOTBALL PROGRAM, and WIN!". That's what I'm here to do, and that's what we're going to do.
I am a 1995 Graduate of Burke High School (Charleston, SC). Upon earning a football athletic scholarship, I played Linebacker at Savannah State University under Coach Wendell Avery from '95 -to '96. I continued my education at SC State University, where I graduated in 2002 from the top school of education in the state, earning a B.S. in Education. I'm currently on pace to achieve my M. Ed. Leadership and Supervision degree from The Citadel (Charleston, SC) in August ’22. I believe a proper education revolves around the education of the whole child. Therefore, my teaching and coaching philosophy is educating the child relative to the real world and grooming them to be productive citizens.
In my professional role as a Physical Education and Health Teacher, I’ve been teaching and coaching for 20 years. I taught and coached for two (2002-2004) years in Prince George’s County Public Schools (Walker Mill Middle School) located in Capitol Heights, Maryland. In addition, I've taught and coached for the past 18 years in Williamsburg & Charleston County Public Schools. While in Williamsburg County, I successfully had four great years of service as Athletic Director. I’ve taken on head coaching roles in several sports at the high school level, which include: Varsity Football, Softball, Girls Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball, and JV Boys Basketball. Coaching accolades include Region 7-AAAA Girls Basketball Co-Coach of the Year (James Island), Region 6-A Football Coach of the Year (Burke High School), and Region 6-A Football Champions (Burke High School). I've also played a vital role in helping several of my student-athletes earn athletic scholarships in football and girls basketball.
