The gospel is not only something we believe—it is something that reshapes who we are. In this message from Romans 1:8–15, we see the heart of the Apostle Paul laid open as he reveals what the gospel actually produces in a person. Before launching into deep theology, Paul expresses gratitude, prayerful dependence, humble longing for mutual encouragement, a sense of holy obligation, and an eagerness to see Christ proclaimed. The gospel that saves also transforms.
This sermon explores how genuine faith generates thanksgiving, drives us to persistent prayer, and creates a humility that both serves and receives encouragement from others. Paul’s desire to visit Rome shows us that mission flows not from ambition, but from love—love for Christ and love for people. Grace never terminates on the one who receives it; it moves through them.
As we reflect on Paul’s example, we are challenged to ask whether we are merely hearers of the gospel or truly shaped by it. Are we grateful for the miracle of faith? Are we dependent in prayer? Do we feel the joyful weight of stewarding the message of Christ? Romans reminds us that the gospel is not information to skim—it is life to be entered into. May it form our hearts, steady our faith, and stir in us an eagerness to see Jesus known.
