In this article we will share with you some very useful information about our new gear pumps – the new HYVA CVP range.
These new pumps have been developed in response to the latest requirements from the truck and gearbox OEMs relating to the PTOs and pumps.  Let’s maybe start with this very important point.
Today modern trucks use very sophisticated automatic gearboxes. These are efficient, lightweight and complicated transmissions, their housings are made of light casted alloys, including the points at which the PTO and hydraulic pump is mounted.

This new design affects the requirements for the PTO’s and pumps in the following ways:

The gearing ratio of a gearbox + pump + PTOs assembly tends to decrease, so preserving the same pump performance requires a bigger pump with a bigger displacement.

At the same time, the weight limit of a pump that can be mounted on the PTO has been reduced. The pump can no longer be heavier than 18kg irrespective to the bending momentum that a mounted pump is generating.  Previously, the weight limit was not as strict provided that the momentum was not exceeding 30Nm in most cases. This weight limit is implemented to reduce the risk of gearbox housing damages.
These 2 requirements are by definition contradicting each other – the bigger displacement a pump has, the heavier it is, of course also in the function of its working pressure, the higher max working pressure, the heavier the pump housing may be needed.  
Both of these two points just mentioned are important in this situation. Maintaining the high performance of the pump is critical for the efficiency of the tipper.
Complying with the weight reduction reduces the risk of leakage or cracked housing that can lead to a very expensive gearbox damage in any HD and off-road tipper application.
Having seen these trends coming we realized that in the great majority of the cases the currently used pumps on the market will not be able to comply with these new regulations. This also refers to some of our current gear pumps. We have always paid attention to the weight aspect, but these new requirements are strongly changing this market once and for all.
