Cyprus - Death of Greek Cypriot mourned

Cypriot authorities on Tuesday (13/8) delayed the funeral of a Greek Cypriot who was beaten to death in buffer zone protests. The action was taken for fear of further trouble. 24-year-old Tassos Isaac was killed when Greek Cypriots forced their way into the buffer zone on Sunday (11/8) to protest the 22-year-old Turkish occupation of the northern part of the island. On Tuesday, mourners gathered with their motorbikes outside the hospital where Isaac's body was taken. Mourners also gathered outside his mother's house near Famagusta, as the family mourned inside. Throughout the day, motorbikers and other mourners
laid flower tributes to Isaac. The UN Police who patrol the dividing line between the Greek and Turkish communities allowed the mourners within ten metres of the spot in the buffer zone where Isaac was killed.
