Recently, Jeff Cavaliere from Athlean X made a video regarding the worst exercise you can do. The exercise he mentioned in this video were upright rows. Indeed, that exercise can be a terrible exercise to do, as it can cause shoulder impingement in many people. If one does that exercise frequently, a shoulder injury or damage to the rotator cuff can indeed follow. So people should stay away from that exercise.
However, with some people, upright rows won't really harm them. If one has a flat acromion shape, they may not experience jamming of structures in their shoulder. So with those people, they can get away with that exercise. So because many people can get away with this exercise, I don't believe it is the absolute worst. The absolute worst exercise you can do, in my opinion, is the behind the neck press. This shoulder exercise places excessive stress on the front of your shoulder, particularly if you are using heavy weight. It can also place great stress on your rotator cuff. In many people, this exercise can blow out the shoulder much faster than upright rows will. For this reason, doing behind the neck presses I would say is significantly worse for you than doing upright rows.
