We Did the Hanyangdoseong 서울 한양도성 (Seoul City Wall) Challenge!

It was a late summer day when we set out on an unforgettable hike along the ancient Hanyangdoseong wall. This wall, which used to encircle Seoul centuries ago, still partially stands today, proudly showcasing Korea's history.

Starting our journey at the Sungnyemun Gate, a grand entrance that has witnessed centuries of change, we began our clockwise trek. Following the natural contours, we wound our way along the ridges and peaks of Inwangsan, Baegak (Bugaksan), Naksan (Naktasan), and Namsan (Mongmyeoksan).

As we moved along, it felt like we were walking in the footsteps of those who had walked these paths long ago. Passing through Changuimun Gate, we tackled the challenging Inwangsan ridge. Once we reached the peak, the view was breathtaking, extending far beyond the modern city below. It was as if we had unlocked a window into history.

Moving onward, Bugaksan ridge was our next destination. The summit offered a serene space, almost like a bridge connecting us to a time long past. Sukjeongmun Gate, with its weathered appearance, greeted us warmly, marking our journey's progress. Hyehwamun Gate, in its quiet dignity, reminded us of the generations that had passed through its arch.

Naksan ridge was a reminder of the strategic significance of this wall, as we marveled at how it once safeguarded the city. Heunginjimun Gate and Gwanghuimun Gate followed, showcasing the wall's steadfast endurance over the ages.

Finally, Namsan ridge led us to the pinnacle, where the iconic Namsan Tower stood tall against the sky. This modern structure seemed to pay homage to the historical surroundings, creating a unique fusion of old and new.

Our journey came full circle as we returned to the Sungnyemun Gate, a sense of reverence and awe filling our hearts. This late summer hike had bridged the gap between past and present, allowing us to experience Seoul's history in a tangible way. Nature, history, and modernity all intertwined, reminding us of the unyielding spirit of Seoul and the stories its walls hold. And we did it in less than 10 hours!
