100 Beautiful and Brutal miles: Backpacking the Wind River High Route

Описание: The Wind River High Route is a thru-hike that’s been on my list since I first heard of its existence in 2020. There are two common versions — Alan Dixon’s and Andrew Skurka’s. This Wind River High Route recap almost exclusively follows the Andrew Skurka version. It’s 97 miles from Trail Lakes Trailhead to Bruce’s Bridge — 65 of those miles are off trail. There is 30,000 feet of elevation gain with an average of 618 feet of vertical change per mile (according to Skurka). The route goes over nine passes, two 13ers and several glaciers.

The Wind River High Route is probably the best hike I have ever done. It was also the hardest. It asked more of me than any 8 days of hiking ever has, and it taught me more about myself than I thought was left to learn. I hope you enjoy this trip report, and that even a fraction of what I gleaned from this hike comes through the screen.
