This training is a part of the Fire Training Course of the Virginia Beach Fire Department, led by Fire Captain Billy Murray.

In the first part of the video, Fire Captain Murray guides me through the Mayday! Firefighter Down Operations Training course. He emphasizes the importance of each exercise that we do, which we apply in the evolutions.

The second part of the video shows me following the hoseline coupling by coupling, with Fire Training Instructor Howard encouraging me to move faster. When you lose your crew, it's important to be able to escape a burning structure as quickly as possible. The third part of the video depicts me falling down a trap that simulates an uneven floor. I use the LUNAR technique to relay a Mayday situation. The acronym LUNAR stands for Location, Unit, Name (Condition), Actions, Assignment and Air Supply, and Resource (Needs). This procedure is vital for a firefighter to follow when in a bad situation, as it saves countless lives.

The video also emphasizes the importance of memorizing the GRABLIVES acronym, which is a self-check tool that ensures your safety. It stands for Gauge, Radio, Activate PASS, Breathing (as in control breathing), Low (as in stay Low), Illuminate (shine your light), Volume (as in make noise), Exit (as in search for an exit), and Shield your airway. Firefighters must keep this acronym in mind at all times, as it is a perishable skill and can make the difference between life and death.
