In this video, Fire Training Instructor Michael James Howard of the Virginia Beach Fire Department teaches us step-by-step how to create a Picket Anchor System for Technical Rescue. This system is used to anchor ropes or cables and can hold up to 4,000 lbs, making it ideal for stabilizing a vehicle during extrication or for technical rope rescue.
The Picket Anchor System uses a combination of rope and webbing, and in this video, we use an endless ratchet strap with industrial-grade webbing. We also provide links to the gear used in this video, including the MSA Fire Safety Helmet, Ironclad General Utility Gloves, Endless Ratchet Strap, and 4-Ton Come-A-Long.
To learn more about the different anchor systems used in technical rescue, check out our article on the Picket Anchor System, linked in the description below.
At the Virginia Beach Fire Academy TRFA 156, we take technical rescue seriously, and the Picket Anchor System is just one of the many skills we learn. Whether you're a firefighter or in another rescue profession, these skills can help save lives and keep you and your team safe.
