Today is the Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time and from the Gospel we will hear: “…people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God. For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
Friends, this is a reminder to all of us: The gate to God’s kingdom might be narrow, but it is open to all. And while the gate to the Master's house is open to all, a time will come when he would lock it, denying entrance to people who have squandered their chance to enter.
Do we continuously and courageously strive to enter the narrow gate? We might think: Oh, we’ve been active and participative in God’s work here below; we surely have a seat reserved at the table up there. But the Gospel teaches us never to be complacent. Keep on striving to enter the kingdom’s narrow gate by doing God’s will.
